Description Summary
Highly skilled mechanic; trained and certified in Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, and Allison. Performs quality repairs of all types within a given time frame, maintaining 98% - 100% return-free work. Frequently engaged in complex diagnoses, troubleshooting issues with no assistance and able to effectively train and guide less experienced technicians. Works with Shop Foreman to establish repair strategies based on job priorities.
Previously worked as B Class Technician, has at least 5 years of experience, and is engine and chassis certified.
- Timely completion of work according to repair orders. Work is accurate, efficient, and in accordance with dealership and factory standards
- Frequently engaged in complex diagnoses of malfunction and performance of repair, or overseeing another technician completing the repair
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with all individuals across the Organization
- Supervise work of lower-level technicians as assigned
- Confirm that all cores are returned to Parts Department and warranty parts are properly tagged and stored
- Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
- Communicate with Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
- Submit complete and accurate write-up for each repair completed and recommended on the repair order
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
- Ensure customers' vehicle is kept clean. Notify Shop Foreman immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
- Keep shop area neat and clean
- Maintains, and is accountable for, dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
- Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with manufacturer technical bulletins, federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operate tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Report any safety issues immediately to management
- Perform all tasks assigned by Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or management
- Road test vehicles when required or refer to test technician to verify satisfactory repair

Education/ExperienceUTI/Lincoln Tech/Pennco Tech (or similar) Certification and a minimum of 5 years’ related experience, including work as a B-Class service technician. Experience and certifications may be substituted for formal program certification.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- 5 years’ exp repairing Class 8 trucks and buses (i.e.:
Blue Bird, Ford, Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit, Cummins, CAT, Eaton, Meritor, Allison and DT12 trucks, etc.) - Engine, Transmission, Air & Emissions Systems exp (EPA
07, EPA
10+) - Computerized diagnostic skills
- 21+ years' old (for auto insurance purposes) & able to lift 100 lbs.
- Valid/clean driver's license
- Willing/able to obtain certifications (Company paid training)
- Experience specific to above noted vehicles
- Certifications for any of the above noted vehicles
- Current CDL, clear of violations/accidents, accompanied by DOT medical cert
- Valid license in good standing with no major or minor accidents in the last 5 years
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, step up into vehicle, and lie on back on creeper under vehicle
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, turn wrench, and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally required to stand and walk
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to focus
