LABORER 1 – Water Division TOWNSHIP OF ROCKAWAY

The Township seeks to hire a full-time Laborer 1 within the Department of Public Works in the Water Division. The Public Works Department includes Parks/Grounds, Roads, Recycling and Water/Sewer. Under supervision, the successful applicant may be required to assist in repairs, paving projects, excavation and maintenance of water/sewer infrastructures including but not limited to pumps, lift stations, hydrants, valves, grinders, etc.

This position is also responsible for the maintenance of properties, maintaining roads and any other duties as assigned, such as salting and snow plowing.

The selected candidate may also be required to help maintain parks and playgrounds which includes but is not limited to weed whacking and grass cutting, leaf removal, and maintenance of buildings.

The applicant must have a high school diploma (or equivalent), as well as the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and have a clean driving history (CDL is preferred; if a candidate does not have a CDL, it is required to be obtained within six months of employment). Experience working in the Department of Public Works is preferred.

This position requires the applicant to be available “on call” and as needed, seven days a week, 24 hours per day. The Township reserves the right to hire as soon as a qualified candidate is located.
