Environmental Remediation Equipment Operator

For 30 years, Firstech Environmental, Inc. in Farmingdale, NJ has delivered site remediation, UST closures, and general site work across New Jersey. We are adding an Environmental Remediation Equipment Operator to our field team.

A day in this role

You start with a safety briefing, review the plan with your supervisor, then mobilize to active remediation projects throughout the region (work is on the road). On site, you operate excavators, loaders, and compactors to remove impacted soils, prep pads, backfill, and restore grades. You coordinate with craftspeople and a mechanical foreman, mentor junior field staff, and keep equipment and tools clean and secured at the end of the shift.

Skillfully run multiple pieces of heavy equipment to support site cleanup and construction prep

Lead and support on-site crews during remediation tasks; communicate proactively with project personnel

Follow written and verbal instructions and use the right tools to complete daily objectives

Prepare new construction sites: digging, moving earth, and compacting soil Assist contractors (craft workers, masons, mechanical foreman) as needed

Clean and clear hazardous and non-hazardous debris

Train field staff on tasks you’ve mastered and cross-train on new skills

Adhere to health and safety rules when on site, operating equipment, and driving

Wear required PPE at all times: head protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety glasses, respirator, and appropriate clothing

Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of heavy equipment experience

Heavy equipment operation: 5 years (Required)
Site remediation experience and the ability to supervise an on-site crew Valid, clean New Jersey driver’s license (no points)
NJ Class A CDL preferred
40-hr OSHA HAZWOPER completed or willingness to obtain, plus annual 8-hr refresher

High school diploma or equivalent (Required)
English proficiency (Required)
Ability to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 100 pounds

Works independently and as part of a team Relevant: 1 year (Preferred)
Heavy Equipment Operator: 5 years (Preferred) heavy equipment mechanic: 3 years (Preferred)
NJDEP UST Closure (Preferred but not required)
Ability to commute to Township of Wall, NJ 07719 (Required)
Compensation & benefits

Job Type: Full-time hourly

Base pay: $35.00–$40.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Overtime paid for time worked over 8 hours/day Medical (Horizon Blue Cross), dental, and vision insurance
401K-type plan with company match up to 3% of base salary

Work location
