NOTICE OF INTERNAL POSTING OF VACANCY

POSITION:
Department of Public Works – General Laborer

This is to advise a vacancy for the above referenced full-time position in the Township Public Works Department. A Public Works Laborer is responsible for the operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and for performing manual labor activities as needed and required by the Public Works Department. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be required to perform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Public Works Laborer is classified as an essential employee and shall be available to work and/or be called in for any and all weather events, state of emergencies and shall work until any emergencies are deemed over.

Interested candidates must possess the ability to perform all duties by the Public Works Department such as but not limited to:

The proper maintenance, improvement, and repair of the facilities of Wall Township, requiring some special building and maintenance skills. Building, custodial, and general grounds keeping, including but not necessarily limited to lawn mowing and maintenance, trim shrubs and trees, paint surfaces, aerate grounds, line athletic fields, rake leaves, pick up leaves, pick up brush, chip brush, turn leaves, water lawns and flower beds.

Dig out tree stumps, dig out and destroy poisonous vines, weeds and undergrowth. Dig trenches, do manual grading, clean up underbrush, foliage, vines, and weeds.

Sweep roads and sidewalks, repair and/or install pavement, perform hot/cold patch, mix cement and mortar, repair and/or install curbing and stripe roads. Plow snow; shovel snow, shovel gravel and sand, sand and salt streets. Pick up municipal and household trash, recycling, and bulk. Load and unload trucks. Load, lift, and move supplies, furniture, and equipment. Load debris into trucks for removal.

Sort, pile, and clean brick, stone, lumber, and metal. Learn to operate construction and/or maintenance equipment. Inspect equipment for proper operating conditions before and after using. Make minor repairs or adjustments, wash, and lubricate equipment or parts thereof as required. Assist other employees in the performance. Learn to operate and make minor repairs to street, road, and related public works equipment.

Repair and/or install drains, catch basins, water mains, and sewer mains, services, and fire hydrants. Read water meters, complete mark outs for utilities, conduct water meter tests, flush water mains and services, clean sludge beds, repair and/or install sewer treatment equipment.

Interested candidates must possess the ability to operate all equipment utilized by the Public Works Department such as but not limited to:

Backhoes, loaders, graders, rollers, jackhammers, leaf vacuum machines, leaf turner machines, chippers, tamps, air compressors, large and small portable pumps, motorized paving machine, large and small lawnmowers, tractors, lawn aerators, blowers, road striping machine, road sweepers, snow plows, salt spreaders, road sanding equipment, all township trucks and cars (pickup, stake, dump, sanitation), all assorted hand tools, and ground care tools.

Requirements:

Candidates shall possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license. Candidates with a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class

A) are preferred. Candidates with a valid Class B (CDL Class
