Peer Recovery Support Specialist – Lawrenceville Area

Preferred Behavioral Health of New Jersey – Lawrenceville, New Jersey. This award‑winning, non‑profit organization is committed to changing lives through a trauma‑informed care culture. The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) works full time, located at 3131 Princeton Pike, Building 6, Lawrenceville.

Responsibilities
  • Use lived experience to provide hope and encouragement to individuals experiencing substance use disorder.
  • Offer outreach, service linkages, and advocacy; provide direct services such as personal assistance, daily living skills, transportation, and home services.
  • Co‑create a Recovery Plan with parents/caregivers, ensuring it includes culturally competent services, measurable goals, strengths assessment, barrier identification, and progress monitoring.
  • Coach parents/caregivers toward recovery goals, empower self‑determined choices, and facilitate recovery community engagement.
  • Reinforce that recovery is possible through strengths and coping skills.
  • Build and sustain a social and physical environment supportive of recovery.
  • Attend Family Team Meetings, supervision, case consultations, consortia, and agency staff meetings as requested.
  • Educate parents/caregivers on navigating treatment, social services, and recovery support systems.
  • Serve as a positive role model, sharing knowledge, hope, and skills.
  • Communicate proficiently in written and verbal formats and exhibit critical thinking.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of addictions preferred.
  • At least 2 continuous years of sustained recovery.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
Required Training
  • Department of Children and Families approved Peer Recovery Support Service training, including Ethics and Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
  • Additional trainings may include Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Human Trafficking, Psychological First Aid, and agency‑specific trainings.
