POSITION

Varsity Field Hockey, Head Coach ) – Part‑time, Fall Season

DESCRIPTION

St. Rose High School, a Catholic, co‑educational high school located in Belmar, NJ, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head Field Hockey Coach. As the Head Coach, you will play a crucial role in shaping the program, fostering a positive and competitive environment for student‑athletes, and promoting the school’s values of academic excellence, character development, and community engagement.

SUMMARY

The Head Coach manages all aspects of the field hockey program, including instruction, program management, logistics, and travel, in support of the Athletic Director. Coaches are expected to demonstrate good judgment, sportsmanship, and adherence to St. Rose High School’s educational philosophy.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Head coaching experience at high school level preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of high school assistant coaching experience required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, social media, and marketing.
  • Minimum of 60 college credits.
  • Monmouth County substitute certificate or ability to obtain one.
  • In‑depth knowledge of field hockey techniques, strategies, and rules.
  • Strong leadership and team‑building skills.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB

All coaches must comply with NJSIAA regulations and school policies:

  • Certified in CPR (NJSIAA regulations). All first‑year coaches must hold CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Complete the Diocese of Trenton's VIRTUS training and receive Fingerprint/Background Check Clearance before starting work.
  • Obtain a 120‑day NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course completion and subsequent component courses as required.
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid; renew as required.
  • Complete Concussion Awareness and Heat Acclimatization Awareness certificates annually.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize the coaching staff and plan practices.
  • Communicate with coaches, the Athletic Director, parents, and community stakeholders.
  • Adhere to district and school policies and regulations.
  • Supervise student‑athletes during practices, games, bus rides, and locker rooms.
  • Instruct athletes in proper equipment use, conditioning, and sport fundamentals.
  • Model and teach positive sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive team environment.
  • Attend meetings, clinics, and professional development when resources allow.
  • Prepare and distribute guidelines and rules for assistant coaches and athletes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and submit work orders as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, and other physical demands.
  • Requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing during the season.
  • Exposure to risk of injury and illness under normal coaching conditions.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE

The Director of Athletics will evaluate the coach at the end of each season using a written evaluation form, followed by a conference to discuss performance and determine the coach’s status for the next season.
