The Opportunity
Avantor is seeking a Material Handler to be responsible for the accurate receiving, storing, picking, and shipping of products to meet Avantor standards of productivity, quality, safety, and customer service. This is a full‑time position based out of our Bridgeport, NJ location.
Responsibilities- Inbound: Unload trucks, trailers, containers of freight; count products; compare to manifest to check shipments for damage, infestation, or production code dates; report shortages, damages, and mis‑shipments; sign for inbound shipments when necessary; move inbound shipments safely to storage locations and stack efficiently.
- Order picking: Ensure correct product number, quantity and type (lot, batch, serial number) are picked; transport orders to shipping locations or delivery platforms using equipment such as forklifts, cherry pickers, or pallet jacks; label, stencil, tag, mark orders, band, bundle, wrap, over‑pack, and palletize as required.
- Outbound: Compare quantity, labeling and address with order to ensure out‑going shipments are complete and correct; assign signatures for outbound as necessary; move product, cartons or pallets into trailers, rail cars or containers.
- Equipment: Maintain equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion; operate equipment safely and efficiently; comply with company standards and OSHA requirements.
- Inventory: Keep accurate records and reports; assist in physical inventories and cycle counts; ensure proper stock rotation; key inventory adjustments in computer.
- Other duties: Repack or re‑box cases per customer instructions; repair and consolidate damaged goods; operate shrink‑wrap machine; charge forklift battery as needed; stack or separate goods from bad pallets; clean railcars, trailers and truck docks, bays as requested; perform other duties as assigned.
- High School education or GED.
- Material handling or related experience.
- OSHA Forklift and HAZMAT certification a plus.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds using proper techniques.
- Strong emphasis on safety, ability to follow directions, shift priorities, use hands and feet simultaneously, and perform repetitive movements.
- Familiarity with warehouse systems.
The work environment is an industrial warehouse. The associate works near moving mechanical machinery and noise level is usually loud. The job may require working at heights, exposure to temperature changes, dust, fumes or gases. Majority of the day is standing and walking. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and repetitive hand and foot movements.
Vision requirements include close, peripheral and depth perception.
