Senior Engineer, Measurement

The primary responsibility for the Senior Engineer, Measurement position is to develop and apply process measurement and automation technology within the Arconic Manufacturing System to achieve significant improvement in process capability and performance.

This will be achieved by:

  • Leading multi-disciplinary technical projects that support business unit objectives for their manufacturing operations and projects to transfer newly developed technology into Arconic's manufacturing facilities.
  • Interacting with Arconic's plant staff to understand their technical needs and business objectives. Writing staged project proposals, gaining acceptance, and implementing solutions to address the needs and meet the objectives.
  • Identifying new developments in measurement and automation technology that emerge outside of Arconic that can be applied to achieve significant improvements in Arconic's manufacturing capability.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary advanced manufacturing projects for implementation at Arconic's plant sites utilizing project management tools, proposals, design reviews, and gate reviews.
  • Develop and deploy measurement technology using skills in instrumentation design, electronic hardware design, software design, optical design, data collection & analysis, and troubleshooting/debugging.
  • Develop business cases and deploy automation systems to achieve significant improvements in Arconic's manufacturing flow-paths.
  • Develop software applications using the C family of languages, MATLAB, LABVIEW, or other high-level languages.
  • Design (AutoCAD, TurboCAD, or Visio) and construction of simple mechanical parts and assemblies required for the integration of measurement systems into a plant process. Alternatively, able to give direction to a mechanical designer/technician to achieve the same result.
  • Identify new measurement technology, propose programs, and capture the technology for application in Arconic's manufacturing operations.
  • Be an effective team leader and member on project teams that include multiple disciplines, multiple manufacturing sites, and team members with diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing project decisions, progress, and status. May include Power Point technical presentations, status reports, technical manuals & documentation, and formal final reports.
  • Travel to Arconic plant sites worldwide for the planning and deployment of process measurement systems.

Essential Knowledge & Skills /

Education:

  • More than three years of experience in the development and deployment of industrial automation & measurement systems.
  • Software development skills including: C, C++, Lab View, and MATLAB.
  • Experience developing project proposals and functional specifications.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both technical and business aspects of R&D projects.
  • Critical Thinking - Ability to analyze problems, conceptualize & define key parameters, and propose and implement effective solutions.
  • Solid organizational skills, ability to work in team environments or individually, effective technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Domain knowledge in industrial automation & measurement systems, software development & deployment, metal processing, and engineering analysis.
  • Able to benchmark measurements/control/automation systems across different industries to identify gaps and opportunities for Arconic.
  • Software design and development methodologies.
  • Experience with video systems, industrial digital cameras, or machine vision.
  • Basic Qualifications (
    * MUST HAVE SPECIFICALLY)
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics from an accredited institution.
    • Minimum of 1 year course work, internship, or work experience in software development (Lab View or MATLAB).
    • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
    • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Physics.
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in development and deployment of industrial measurement and automation systems.
    • Expertise in vision based advanced measurement systems.
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in an industrial R&D facility.
    • Strong software development skills demonstrated in industrial applications.

Compensation Base Salary - $70,000 to $89,000
