Overview
I’m working with an Illinois lab that is looking to bring on an engineer to support certification activities in-house while also performing on-site equipment evaluations that involve periodic travel. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, variety, and solving complex electrical and electromechanical challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Manage certification and compliance projects across a range of equipment types
- Coordinate directly with certification bodies (UL, Intertek, CSA, Nemko, CE, etc.)
- Develop test plans, review product designs, and conduct compliance assessments
- Produce detailed documentation including construction reviews, test reports, and field evaluation reports
- Perform on-site Field Evaluations for unlisted or modified equipment at customer facilities
- Communicate findings to customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Carry out electrical testing using multimeters, hipot testers, leakage-current equipment, DAQ systems, temperature measurement tools, and other instruments
- Support evaluations across diverse electrical and electromechanical product categories
- Work with new technologies and prototypes, conducting both electrical and mechanical testing
- Interpret technical standards to ensure products meet relevant safety and performance requirements
- 3–12 years of experience in certifications, compliance, or field evaluation work
- Strong knowledge of UL/CSA/IEC standards and NEC/NFPA codes
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
- Willingness to travel for field assignments
- Hands-on proficiency with common laboratory electrical test equipment
