Overview
Are you a hard-working Project Engineer / Electrical Engineering professional that enjoys pushing products to their limits? If so, we at Emerson have an exciting career growth opportunity for you! You'll be based in our laboratory in East Dundee, Illinois and under the guidance of our Director of Engineering Lighting & HCS
. As a key member of our Engineering product development and certification team, you will help develop and support Appleton’s world-class Nelson & Easy Heat heat trace products to ensure they are the toughest, most reliable, and safest in both commercial and heavy industrial industry. You’ll also help support our customers by analyzing field issues and working with our manufacturing partners to keep production flowing.
You will also be responsible for identifying the testing and performance requirements we need to ensure every new product launched into the market is worthy of Appleton’s century-long brand history and Emerson’s name on the label.
- Work directly with Product Management to develop products in our stage gate New Product Development Process
- Design and maintain oversight of electronic controls and control systems used in heating cable installations
- Work directly with certification agencies such as UL, CSA, and Intertek to coordinate test plans to acquire third-party certifications
- Analyze resistance heating cable construction, manufacturing methods, and heating cable materials
- Evaluate cable reliability and work directly with our factories and manufacturing partners to suggest improvements
- Create and maintain all documentation associated with Heat Trace Cable Systems
- Work directly with customers to troubleshoot field installation issues
- Work directly with our quality team to analyze any non-conformance issues that arise

Forthis Role You Will Need
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field of study
- 2+ years of experience with product development work within an engineering development organization
- Ability to lift 40-pound boxes and products being evaluated within the lab facility and in completion of testing activities
- Willingness and ability to travel globally, up to 15% annually
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Experience with heavy industrial equipment design
- Experience with Heat Trace Cable Systems

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The salary range for this role is $75,000 - $90,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
