Overview:I’m partnering with a small, innovative biotechnology company in Illinois that is advancing novel therapies in immunology
, with a strong focus on immune modulation and tolerance-based approaches.
They are seeking a senior scientific leader at Senior Director, Executive Director, or VP level to help build and scale their immunology capabilities.
This is a highly visible role within a lean, fast-moving biotech
, offering the opportunity to shape scientific strategy while working closely with executive leadership and external partners.
In this position, you will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across immunology programs, contributing both scientifically and operationally.
The company is specifically looking for someone who has built before
, brings existing vendor and CRO relationships
, and can operate effectively in a smaller biotech environment.
- Provide scientific and strategic leadership across immunology programs
- Help build and scale immunology programs within a small biotech setting
- Leverage existing relationships with CROs, vendors, and external partners
- Contribute to and support scientific publications, abstracts, and external communications
- Guide scientific strategy in immune tolerance / drug tolerance (strongly preferred)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical development, regulatory, CMC, and external collaborators
- Represent the company with key opinion leaders, academic partners, and vendors
Required Background &
Experience:
- PhD, MD, or equivalent in Immunology or a related discipline
- Senior-level experience at Senior Director / Executive Director / VP level
- Proven experience building programs, functions, or teams in biotech
- Deep expertise in immunology
- Strong experience managing external vendors and CROs
- Track record of contributing to peer-reviewed publications
- Comfortable working in a resource-conscious, high-impact environment
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience in immune tolerance or drug tolerance
- Background in smaller or early-stage biotech companies
- Established network across CROs, vendors, and academic collaborators
- Preference for candidates local to Illinois (team onsite 3 days per week
) - Remote candidates will also be considered
- Approximately 40% travel required
