Adjunct Faculty Nursing

Position: Adjunct Faculty for Nursing
Mitchell College is conducting a search for an Adjunct Professor for Nursing who will deliver the didactic and clinical nursing courses in Mitchell College's 4-year, direct entry bachelor of nursing science (BSN) program while adhering to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) . The incumbent's work includes approximately 4-credit hours of didactic instruction and 6-credit hours of clinical instruction per week over the course of a 15-week semester.

Responsibilities may include facilitating nursing science laboratory and simulation lab instruction during emergencies and other unforeseen events. Institutional-specific duties are also required.

Primary Responsibilties Include:

Under the direction of Mitchell College's Director of Nursing, the adjunct nursing professor is accountable for these essential duties:

* Didactic Nursing Instruction Duties:
The adjunct nursing professor will deliver approximately 4-credit hours of high-quality in-person didactic instruction per week (which equates to about 2 hours of classroom instruction 2 days per week). Faculty will implement diverse teaching strategies and assessment methods to facilitate optimal learning among students with different learning styles and backgrounds. Asynchronous and synchronous online instruction will be delivered via Moodle, Mitchell College's learning management system (LMS).

The adjunct will assist the Director of Nursing in curriculum development activities including the creation of syllabi, projects, exams and quizzes, homework assignments, and rubrics.

* Clinical Nursing Instruction Duties:
The adjunct nursing professor will deliver approximately 6-credit hours of high-quality in-person clinical instruction per week (which equates to about 6 hours of clinical nursing instruction 1 day per week). Assigned clinical sites span the continuum of care and may include hospitals, out-patient clinics, psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living communities, and homecare settings. The adjunct is responsible for the implementation of diverse teaching strategies and assessment methods to facilitate optimal learning in clinical environments.

Designing comprehensive activities for pre and post-clinical conferences and patient care assignments is required.

* Institution-Specific Duties:
The adjunct nursing professor will attend and participate in convocation and commencement ceremonies, serve on assigned committees and task forces, and participate in professional, staff, and informational meetings. Meetings and events are occasionally scheduled during evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates are required to have an active, unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in the state of Connecticut, a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and a minimum of a Master's degree in nursing from an accredited program of nursing. To be considered for the position, candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in nursing instruction and evaluation methods, knowledge of curriculum design, and familiarity with the accreditation process at institutions of higher learning.

Candidates must possess a deep commitment to diversity. Incumbents must have proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills along with strong information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and TEAMS.

Experience with learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle is also required.

Individuals moving to the hiring process must complete required health indicators such as a physical examination and immunizations (e.g. MMR, chicken pox, influenza, and others required by clinical agencies), titers, and tuberculosis screening at the time of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* An earned doctorate in nursing such as a Ph.D., DNP, or Ed.D. from an accredited institution of higher learning

* Professional portfolio with demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching, and research

* Five or more years of full-time experience in higher education

* Four or more years of full-time experience as a nursing didactic and/or clinical professor

* Four or more years of full-time experience with Ability Based Education (ABE)

* Peer-reviewed publication in the nursing or interdisciplinary healthcare journals and texts

* Current Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) certification

* Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

* Current International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) certification

* Current Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) certification
