Position OverviewThe Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher provides high‑quality, culturally and linguistically responsive instruction that supports multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency and achieving academic success. Depending on the assigned role, the teacher delivers specialized TESOL instruction or bilingual education while collaborating with staff and families to ensure equitable access to learning.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities- Provide high‑quality instruction that supports English language development and academic achievement for multilingual learners through TESOL and/or bilingual education programs.
- Assess and monitor student progress using language proficiency and academic data to differentiate instruction and ensure equitable access to grade‑level curriculum.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and families to develop and implement effective instructional strategies, accommodations, and supports for multilingual learners.
- Create inclusive, culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments that foster student engagement, language acquisition, and academic success.
- Maintain accurate student records, participate in professional learning, and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
- TESOL (MLL) Teacher:
Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with a TESOL, PK12 (#111) endorsement. - Bilingual Teacher:
Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with the appropriate Bilingual Education (#902) endorsement. - Must demonstrate proficiency in the designated language required for the assignment.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
