TITLE:

Interim Director of Adult Education

REPORTS TO:

Superintendent

SUPERVISES:
Adult Education staff

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Interim position March 2026 - June 2026. Other terms are set by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Administrators' Education Association contract.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Interim Director of Adult Education manages all aspects of the adult education program including fiscal operations, facility oversight, public relations, staffing and evaluation, and instructional programming to meet the needs of the community it serves. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and facilitation for the adult education program which includes oversight of all onsite and offsite programs including State mandated classes of General Educational Development (GED) diploma test preparation, Adult High School (AHSCDP) diploma, English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and nonmandated enrichment program offerings as well as the operation of an Official GED Testing Center.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide organizational leadership and develop strategic plan of service delivery for year-round mandated and non-mandated instructional programming for culturally diverse population of adult learners from five area communities

* Manage budget for local, State, federal, and private grants serving the educational, workforce, and enrichment needs of the community

* Oversee program operations and supervises large staff of part-time and full-time day and evening personnel at four sites

* Oversee program funding by pursuing and responding to Request for Proposals from federal, State Department of Education, Department of Labor (DOL), and private grant sources

* Assist in the implementation of the planned adult program in accordance with all guidelines

* Coordinate aligned professional development offerings for staff

* Use effective communication strategies to interact with a variety of audiences; including, but not limited to, community-based organizations, social service agencies, cooperating school districts, and the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Development Board (EWIB)

* Oversee building operations and acquisition of facility resources

* Conduct public relations, outreach, and marketing within educational and business sectors

* Organize recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of all teaching, professional and support staff; provide training and development opportunities for all sites

* Promote community and adult education professional organizations

* Attend and participate in educational conferences pertinent to adult, community, career, and technical education

* Keep abreast of current research, trends, methods, and practices in adult and community education

* Keep abreast of laws, rules, and policies which relate to adult and community education

* Evaluate Adult Education Programs based on state and federal criteria, guidelines and regulations

* Monitor and evaluate all Adult and Community Education Programs and grant-funded projects through collecting and responding to data

* Prepare or supervise the preparation of all required reports and maintain all required records

* Serve on associated committees, councils, and/or task forces

* Exhibit support for the District's vision, mission, goals, and priorities

* Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position

* Maintains regular attendance and professional appearance.

* Maintains accurate statistics regarding Adult Education programs

* Assumes responsibility for graduation exercises; e.g. facility, speakers, diplomas, etc.

* Assumes responsibility for student transcripts, recommendations, and records

* Supervises the summer session of the Adult Education program

* Initiates any and all actions necessary to improve the delivery of Adult Education services

* Coordinates with appropriate staff, the facilitation and submission of all available grant opportunities

* Assists with the implementation of the district improvement plan and school improvement plan

* Adheres to CT Leadership Standards

* Performs other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent/Designee

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's degree from accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education

* 092 endorsement from the State of Connecticut

* Possess a valid Teaching Certificate

* Professional experience in the areas of teaching, grant writing and monitoring and responding to data

* Experience in curriculum development, adult learning and program leadership delivered to multi-generational audiences
