Position Overview The Interim Elementary School Assistant Principal serves as a vital member of the elementary school administrative leadership team, providing instructional leadership, operational support, and oversight necessary to maintain a safe, supportive, high-achieving, and innovative learning environment for all students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This description of the Elementary School Assistant Principal is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the supervisor according to varying needs.

  • Assists with the overall leadership and management of the elementary school, including Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 academic and behavioral supports, magnet programming, student services, and daily building operations.
  • Supports instructional leadership and continuous school improvement by collaborating with staff on curriculum, instruction, assessment, intervention, professional learning, school improvement goals, and developmentally appropriate practices that improve student outcomes.
  • Promotes a safe, inclusive, and supportive school culture by supporting student behavior, attendance, restorative practices, school climate, and the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students.

Builds strong relationships with staff, students, families, and community partners while assisting with staff supervision, school operations, family engagement, and implementation of district policies, strategic priorities, and Connecticut School Leadership Standards.

  • Must hold a valid Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) educator certificate with an endorsement in one or more of the following endorsement areas: 092
  • A minimum of five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching or leading at the elementary school level.
Preferred Requirements
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
  • Sixth year, doctorate, or another planned program in educational leadership, ELL, or special education
  • Knowledge of magnet school program development and implementation
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and engage educators, community members, and families from culturally and racially diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of instructional technology that supports teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of STEM themes and educational programming
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in an ethnically diverse community

Experience in supporting building-level Special Education and English Learners programs and services
