Protection Engineer / Protection Test Engineer (Offshore Wind Project)

Rotation: 21 days on / 21 days off (offshore)

We are supporting a major offshore wind project seeking a Protection Engineer / Protection Test Engineer to provide onsite technical support for offshore transmission and high‑voltage systems. This role will work closely with the project’s Protection Lead to support commissioning, testing, and validation of protection systems across offshore infrastructure.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of HV systems, supporting protection schemes, relay testing, and system integration during commissioning and operational readiness phases.
Key Responsibilities- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of protection systems across offshore substations and transmission assets
- Execute and witness protection relay testing, validation, and fault analysis activities
- Collaborate closely with the Protection Lead and broader electrical/commissioning teams offshore
- Assist in reviewing protection settings, schemes, and system performance against project specifications
- Troubleshoot and resolve protection system issues during commissioning and energization phases
- Coordinate with OEMs, contractors, and engineering teams to ensure compliance with technical standards
- Support documentation, reporting, and handover processes for protection systems
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with project HSE requirements and regulatory standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of:
- 1+ year experience working offshore OR
- 3+ years of experience at an onsite substation environment
- Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage protection systems and relay testing
- Strong understanding of protection schemes within HV transmission systems
- Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and energization activities
- HVDC protection engineering experience strongly preferred
- Experience with Siemens HVDC systems and protection equipment preferred
- Prior experience within offshore wind, transmission, or large‑scale energy projects
- Valid GWO (Global Wind Organization) certification (Working at Heights, Sea Survival, etc.) required
- Ability to work in a rotational offshore environment (21/21)
- Must meet offshore medical and fitness requirements
