Overview
The Electromagnetics group is seeking candidates with an interest in Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Successful candidates will support the company-wide ESD control program, helping ensure that all electrical systems meet performance, reliability, and compliance objectives across all submarine platforms. In this role, individuals will assist with development and implementation of ESD requirements, support technical evaluations of equipment that may have been impacted by ESD events, and contribute to root-cause analysis when needed.
Responsibilities also include participating in ESD classification testing, providing deck-plate support for ESD issues or concerns as they arise, and performing circuit-level analysis of integrated circuit (IC) susceptibility. Candidates should be motivated to learn about ESD concepts, relevant industry standards, and the impact ESD can have on system‑level performance in complex electrical and electronic systems.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Physics
- 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
Preferred:
- Practical/theoretical ESD experience, particularly with requirements associated with ANSI/ESD S20.20, IEC 61000-4-2, MIL-STD-1686, and MIL-HDBK-263.
- Fundamental understanding of basic electrical concepts (circuits, components, grounding, bonding, etc.).
- Experience with IC behavior, component‑level failure modes, circuit-level analysis, system reliability considerations, and ESD models such as Human Body Model, Charge Device Model, and Machine Model.
- Candidates must possess strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills which are necessary to function successfully in existing teamed environments.
- The ability to multi-task and possession of skills that permit independent functioning without significant oversight is also desired.
