Provide emergency and non-emergency management and care for acute injuries, illnesses, and medical conditions suffered by students while participating in club sport games as assigned by the Assistant Dean for Student Engagement.
General Duties and Responsibilities- Evaluate athletic injuries and medical conditions, and provide immediate therapeutic care for such conditions within the scope of practice of an Athletic Trainer.
- Refer athletes to appropriate medical attention as necessary.
- Provide Athletic Training services for club sports games as assigned.
- Determine the advisability of play for injured athletes and report this status to the appropriate team official.
- Provide proper documentation to the Office of Student Engagement of all injuries or athletes treated at assigned games.
- Demonstrate ethical behavior in regards to work duties and in relationships with student-athletes and members of the campus community.
- Ensure universal precautions for blood borne pathogens are followed in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations.
- Review and attest to your ability to carry out Connecticut College’s Emergency Action Plan for the venue(s) of assigned games.
- Current certification by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATA-BOC)
- Current State of Connecticut Athletic Trainer License
- Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification as a Professional Rescuer or Healthcare Provider
- Current personal liability insurance that includes a “moonlighting” clause.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in an emergency situation.
- Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations.
- Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the College and community.
- High integrity needed to handle confidential information.
- Valid Drivers License.
- Mobility:
Must be able to move quickly and efficiently across athletic fields, courts, and indoor/outdoor venues to respond to injuries or emergencies. - Lifting and Carrying:
Must be able to lift, carry, and transport medical equipment, supplies, and occasionally assist in moving or supporting injured athletes (up to 50 lbs). - Standing and Walking:
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and observing athletic events are required throughout assigned games. - Bending, Kneeling, and Reaching:
Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching are necessary when providing on-site evaluation and treatment of athletes. - Dexterity:
Manual dexterity is required for performing first aid, taping, bracing, and operating medical and emergency equipment. - Hearing and Vision:
Must have adequate hearing and visual acuity to assess injury situations, observe athletes, and monitor surroundings during play. - Communication:
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in high-stress or emergency situations, both verbally and in writing. - Environmental Conditions:
Must work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in inclement weather, and be exposed to potential hazards such as blood borne pathogens. - Stamina:
Must maintain focus and physical endurance during extended game coverage, which may include evenings and weekends.
