Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Administrator to join our team at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. This full-time, on-site position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, supporting critical IT infrastructure and ensuring the security and reliability of our systems.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and maintain Windows and Linux servers, including configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
* Implement and manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and other directory services.
* Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-user computing environments, including desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
* Administer and support network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points.
* Manage cloud services and virtualization platforms, ensuring scalability and high availability.
* Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
* Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices, including patch management and vulnerability assessments.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new systems and technologies.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on IT best practices and security awareness.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Systems Administrator or in a similar IT role.
* Proven experience with Windows and Linux server administration.
* Strong knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, and other directory services.
* Experience with network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, and wireless access points.
* Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
* Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Certification in relevant IT fields (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional).
* Experience with Dev Ops tools and practices.
* Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
* Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Power Shell, Bash, Python). Why Join Us?
