Job Description

General Scope of Duties

Provide direction, leadership and coordination of custodial work activities to maintain a clean and attractive environment for the Connecticut College community. Perform custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.

General Duties and Responsibilities Priority Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensure work order assignments and routine cleaning tasks are completed according to established standards
  • Provide direction to custodians to ensure appropriate level of cleanliness
  • Ensure all work processes comply with OSHA requirements/regulations and college policies and procedures
  • Train employees on safe operation of equipment and use of chemicals
  • Perform QA inspections to ensure cleaning activities meet established standards
General Duties And Responsibilities
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are followed
  • Coordinate employee work schedules to ensure that manpower needs are satisfied
  • Execute maintenance and repair of custodial equipment
  • Perform custodial duties including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, floor finishing, cleaning windows, walls and furniture, restocking supplies, and trash/recycling removal
  • Properly lock and unlock doors for cleaning purposes; ensure all windows and doors are secured as appropriate when leaving
  • Set up rooms for various functions using a work order for direction
  • Operate a service vehicle as required to perform duties
  • Available for call back and scheduled overtime, as required
  • Other duties as assigned or as necessary
Education and Skills
  • Requires high school diploma and 1–3 years of progressively responsible custodial experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be detail oriented and able to coordinate work by others
  • Well-organized, able to work under pressure
  • Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all areas of the college and community
  • High integrity needed to handle confidential information
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pounds
  • Knowledge and ability to safely use supplies, equipment, and tools in performing duties
  • Must have a valid State Driver’s License
