- Clinical Care – Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management for patients across inpatient, ambulatory, and outpatient settings. Work collaboratively with supervising physicians; perform medical histories, physical examinations, diagnostic testing, treatment planning, and may perform procedures and prescribe medications within institutional guidelines. May assist in operative cases as scope allows and respond to emergencies.
- Patient Education & Psychosocial Support – Educate patients and families on care and resources, including admission instructions, treatment plans, side effects, and discharge plans. Provide psychosocial support as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Information Management – Ensure proper documentation and protect patient information across all media from unauthorized access, ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Quality Management – Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior, comply with healthcare regulatory requirements, and contribute to quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
- Professional Development – Engage in competency‑maintenance projects, serve as a clinical resource for new staff, mentor pre‑PA/NP candidates, and contribute to research or protocol development when appropriate.
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
- Clinical experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required.
- APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the medical‑staff credentialing process, evidencing current competence to practice.
- Active PA Certification (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS/BLS certification, and DEA license when indicated.
- Pediatric position profiles require PALS; neonatal care requires NRP certification.
- Additional licensure, certifications, or continuing education may be required based on specialty.
- Alternatively, a Connecticut State Registered Nurse License, Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License, or board specialty certification, as appropriate.
