Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing

Mitchell College invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing with expertise in adult health and medical-surgical nursing. This faculty member will join a small, collaborative team committed to strengthening and growing Mitchell’s prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

The successful candidate will teach across didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning environments while contributing to curriculum development, student progression, program assessment, and continuous improvement. We seek an educator who combines current clinical knowledge with a highly relational approach to teaching and who is prepared to support students with varied educational experiences, learning profiles, and levels of academic preparation.

This is an opportunity for a faculty member who wants to help shape a developing nursing program, work closely with students and colleagues, and contribute meaningfully to the program’s continued alignment with Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing requirements and Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing standards.

Essential Responsibilities Teaching and student learning

Teach undergraduate nursing courses in adult health and medical-surgical nursing across didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.

Use evidence-based and inclusive teaching practices that promote clinical judgment, safe practice, professional identity, and achievement of course and program outcomes.

Integrate contemporary NCLEX-RN test-plan concepts, Next Generation NCLEX clinical-judgment approaches, and active-learning strategies throughout assigned courses.

Evaluate student learning and clinical performance using clear, consistent, and appropriately rigorous assessment methods.

Provide timely feedback, academic advising, clinical-skills support, and remediation to promote student progression and professional development.

Curriculum and program assessment

Participate in the development, implementation, and regular evaluation of the nursing curriculum.

Contribute to curriculum mapping and the alignment of course outcomes, end-of-program student learning outcomes, professional nursing standards, and licensure expectations.

Participate in the collection, analysis, and use of course and program data through the program’s systematic evaluation and continuous-improvement processes.

Maintain accurate course, assessment, clinical, and accreditation documentation.

Laboratory and simulation education

Facilitate skills-laboratory and simulation experiences that reflect contemporary nursing practice and support the achievement of course outcomes.

Develop or adapt simulation scenarios, learning activities, and evaluation methods appropriate to students’ level of preparation.

Use evidence-based pre-briefing, facilitation, and debriefing practices.

Collaborate with nursing colleagues to ensure the safe and effective use of simulation facilities, equipment, and technology.

Program and College service

Participate in nursing-program meetings, faculty governance, College committees, recruitment and orientation activities, and other institutional service.

Contribute to ACEN accreditation activities and compliance with Connecticut nursing-education requirements.

Collaborate with clinical partners, faculty colleagues, and College offices to support high-quality student learning experiences.

Maintain currency in clinical practice, nursing education, assessment, and instructional technology through appropriate professional development.
