Are you looking for a career that will make an impact? Leidos is seeking a Research Assistant in Audiology to join our team onboard the Naval Submarine Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in New London, Groton, CT. As a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in conducting research studies and investigating the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of Naval personnel in both operational and non‑operational settings.

Job Responsibilities
  • Interact with and assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in all aspects of human and non‑human subject experimental planning, data collection, and data analysis.
  • Plan, develop scientific protocols, prepare and set up experimental equipment, and test it.
  • Assist with audiology research using experimental apparatuses to investigate hearing protection devices and communication systems.
  • Execute setup, testing, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment.
  • Manage all aspects of research subject recruiting and coordinate with subjects and other research personnel to ensure successful protocol execution.
  • Communicate with audiologists and hearing conservation researchers outside NSMRL to stay aware of technology developments and explore collaboration opportunities.
  • Prepare and present reports, presentations, and other documents as directed.
  • Adhere to and implement scientific review board and institutional review procedures.
  • Assist in developing and tracking the program budget; when necessary, coordinate with acquisition personnel to ensure timely contract execution and prepare travel and purchase requests with required documentation.
  • Provide additional research‑related support as needed.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to hearing science (e.g., acoustics) or related coursework.
  • Documented experience in research methods (e.g., bachelor’s thesis or coursework).
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively, both written and oral, with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to apply research knowledge to the missions of NSMRL and the Navy.
  • Desire to pursue a career in life sciences supporting military health sciences.
  • Must be able to acquire a SECRET clearance to a minimum; preference for those already holding the clearance.
  • US citizenship required.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Work will be primarily performed on a government installation; standard work week Monday‑Friday 0800‑1630.
  • Some off‑site travel (~10%) may be required for data collection, presentations, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI/PII compliance, etc.
  • Computer literacy, Microsoft Office proficiency, and knowledge of statistical software.
  • Foundational and theoretical understanding of general scientific principles.
  • Experience in a human subject research setting and within the US federal government system highly desired.
  • ASHA certification desired.
