Job SummaryThe Global Commodity Manager is responsible for managing and executing global commodity strategies across electronics, electrical, and mechanical components. This role focuses on ensuring efficient supply flow from a global supplier base to support customer demand while driving material cost reductions. Responsibilities include executing commodity strategies, managing volume transitions to new or expanded supplier partnerships, and contributing as a key team member on supply chain projects that support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze commodity spend, supplier data, and market conditions to develop and execute strategies that reduce total cost of ownership, including pricing, freight, tariffs, value-add opportunities, and supply base optimization.
- Identify, lead, and track cost-savings initiatives for direct materials; coordinate implementation with Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and other stakeholders.
- Support global and regional supply chain initiatives aimed at leveraging spend and improving sourcing effectiveness.
- Support the identification, qualification, and development of global suppliers aligned with manufacturing strategies and product roadmaps.
- Work with Legal, as needed, to support the development and management of global supply agreements, including intellectual property protection and commercial terms.
- Maintain strong working relationships with key suppliers to ensure performance expectations are met for cost, quality, delivery, and service.
- Stay current on commodity market and industry trends, providing relevant insights to internal stakeholders.
- Lead supplier negotiations within defined approval levels to support sourcing strategies and business objectives.
- Monitor supplier performance using established KPIs, such as on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost.
- Partner with Quality and Purchasing to drive supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts.
- 8-10 years' experience in purchasing, sourcing, and/or commodity management within an electronics, electrical, or mechanical device manufacturing environment; experience in a high-mix, low-volume operation strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
- Demonstrated experience leading supplier negotiations, managing vendor relationships, and influencing outcomes across internal and external stakeholders
- Strong working knowledge of sourcing and contracting ERP tools. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Power Point
- Master's degree preferred
- ISM CPM, CPSM, or equivalent certification preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
- Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills
- Proven ability to solve problems using a structured, practical approach, supporting both day-to-day issues and longer-term opportunities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, document processes, and present information to internal stakeholders and suppliers
- Demonstrated critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify root causes and recommend sound solutions
- Results-driven mindset with the ability to drive execution and follow through on commitments
- Experience supporting or driving continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Kaizen, Six Sigma, TQM)
- Strong time management skills, including accurate workload estimation and respect for deadlines and stakeholder time
