Construction Labor / Trades, Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Overview
Perform tasks involving physical labor at construction project sites, including operating hand and power tools, cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces, erecting scaffolding, and hauling and hoisting materials. Maintain a clean and safe job site, secure materials and equipment each day, and assist other craft workers as needed.
Responsibilities- Operate hand and power tools such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and other construction instruments.
- Clean, prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support excavation sides, erect scaffolding, and remove rubble, debris, and waste materials.
- Load and unload trucks, haul, and hoist materials while ensuring safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Secure job site each day by picking up and stowing materials, tools, and small equipment.
- Assist in identifying and ensuring underground and overhead utilities are located or exposed before excavating.
- Review trenching requirements with the Superintendent and ensure required protection is available.
- Communicate with the project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent, Safety Director or Management regarding any concerns or actions that may affect project safety or operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent with six to twelve months of construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and ability to work with construction equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Must have OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR certification and demonstrate knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures.
- Ability to view and understand safety training video and apply safety guidelines at all times.
- Good oral and written communication skills at all levels of management and employees.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Dependable attendance and ability to maintain a schedule as required by management and project needs.
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work, including lifting and moving up to 100 pounds and working under adverse field conditions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and able to pass a drug and alcohol screening, which may include testing for marijuana, in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.
- Union affiliation or willingness to take the necessary steps to join the union.
- Ability to travel as needed and flexible regarding work hours, including occasional weekends.
The job requires regularly lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds, performing strenuous physical labor, sitting, standing, walking, bending, stretching, speaking, and hearing, and occasionally stooping or kneeling under adverse field conditions.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in variable weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat, in an environment with machinery, loud noises, and proximity to construction sites.
