Position SummaryThis position works under minimal supervision and works primarily on negotiated commercial projects within the core markets. Works closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Must have experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates and conceptual cost studies from schematic or feasibility level documentation.
- Ability to prepare detailed estimate updates, as the design evolves, including preparing variance summaries between estimates.
- Must have knowledge and understanding of unit costs and the factors that affect construction cost.
- Ability to prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade specific clarifications and comprehensive bid packages.
- Ability to understand and negotiate electrical and/or mechanical work.
- Must have experience writing and negotiating subcontracts.
- Must be prepared to participate and often lead the preparation and presentation of cost / budget information to the Customer / Owner.
- Willingness and desire to actively participate in Value Engineering sessions with the project team and design team.
- Must have experience being a member of the team involved in Request for Proposal Responses (RFPs) and the formal presentation for a project.
- Can develop business with new and existing Customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree a plus or equivalent required related experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Commercial Construction Estimator, preferably within CECs Core Market projects
- Must have a current Drivers License and reliable transportation.
- Must meet attendance standards and comply with late/absence notification procedures.
- Must be able to pass drug and background check.

- Proficient in Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Bluebeam.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
- Flexible and adaptable; ability to work in a team environment and initiative to work alone
- Ability to work flexible hours, if needed.
This job may work inside or outside with possible exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and weather elements in restricted or confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces. This job may have exposure to working on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and other exposures typical of heavy construction. This job also operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
