Correctional Facility | Dental Assistant | Estancia, NM
Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Dental Assistant to join a general dentistry team at a correctional facility. This is a great opportunity for a Dental Assistant looking for a stable, full-time permanent position with consistent hours, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing essential dental care to an underserved patient population.
Key Details
- Full-time position: 5 8's or 4 10's
- Dentist on-site:
Tuesday, Wednesday & every other Friday - Monday, Thursday & every other Friday:
Dental Assistant works independently and will focus on:- Initial patient triage
- X-rays
- Patient preparation
- Other appropriate administrative/clinical duties
- Basic general dentistry, with the majority of treatment consisting of fillings and simple extractions
Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist with patient treatment by preparing the operatory, instruments, materials, and equipment needed for each procedure.
- Sterilize dental instruments and the dental unit after each treatment and ensure the operatory is properly prepared for the next patient.
- Perform patient X-rays and initial triage as appropriate.
- Prepare all dental materials as directed
- Maintain appropriate control and inventory of medications, syringes, dental supplies, and equipment in accordance with established procedures
- Keep all equipment and work areas clean and sanitary while following appropriate infection-control and sanitation protocols.
- Follow all facility policies, procedures, and applicable dental practice regulations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of Dental Assistant experience
- Certificate or evidence of completion of a dental assisting training program, or other qualifications that meet the requirements of the Dental Practice Act in the state of practice
- Radiology certificate
- Ability to work independently and stay organized on days when the dentist is not on-site in a structured correctional environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compensation & Benefits
- $19-$22/hour, depending on skills and experience
