Location: Taos

Overview

Pay Rate: $52 per hour plus $1,414 weekly travel stipends (If applicable)

Schedule: 8-hour shift scheduled within the Taos-Picuris Service Unit’s hours of operation, which are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays. 30-minute unpaid lunch break.

Contract Length: 1 year with the option to extend

Benefits: $5.09 per hour for Health and Welfare, 10 days PTO, Accrued sick days, and 11 Paid Holidays.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Dental Hygienist to provide high-quality preventive and therapeutic oral care in a well-structured clinical setting. This role focuses on patient education, disease prevention, and supporting overall oral health in an underserved community.

Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience (adult & pediatric)
  • BLS or ACLS certification
  • Radiography (X-ray) certification
  • Local anesthesia authorization
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to meet IHS credentialing requirements
  • Dentrix (or similar EHR) experience preferred
Responsibilities
  • Perform dental cleanings, scaling and root planing, periodontal assessments, and oral cancer screenings
  • Take and review dental radiographs to support diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Apply preventive treatments such as fluoride and sealants
  • Administer local anesthesia and deliver therapeutic agents as permitted
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and post-treatment care
  • Accurately document all patient encounters in Dentrix/EHR systems
  • Maintain strict infection control and sterilization protocols
  • Prepare treatment rooms and ensure proper equipment readiness
  • Monitor patient conditions and assist in dental or medical emergencies
  • Support inventory management of dental supplies and equipment
  • Communicate effectively with providers and patients to ensure continuity of care
