Optometrist
The Optometrist will provide comprehensive optometric care to patients at the Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center. This role involves performing diagnostic, therapeutic, and emergency eye care services in an outpatient setting while maintaining strict adherence to clinical standards and cultural sensitivity requirements.
Location: Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center (ZCCHC) Optometry Clinic, Zuni, New Mexico
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 08:00 AM to 04:30 PM (excluding federal holidays)
Key Responsibilities
Patient Examinations: Perform comprehensive medical eye examinations and diagnostic screenings, including those for diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
Diagnosis & Management: Diagnose and manage various optometric and ocular medical conditions.
Clinical Procedures: Execute procedures such as tonometry, gonioscopy, ophthalmoscopy, biomicroscopy, foreign body removal, and lacrimal system dilation and irrigation.
Treatment: Prescribe corrective lenses, contact lenses, visual aids, and therapeutic pharmaceutical agents.
Diagnostic Ordering: Order necessary laboratory, diagnostic, and radiologic studies as clinically indicated.
Care Coordination: Coordinate care with other ZCCHC providers and manage Purchased Referred Care (PRC) referrals when necessary.
Documentation: Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records in accordance with facility bylaws and the Privacy Act.
Quality & Safety: Participate in facility Quality Assurance and Risk Management activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Must possess a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
Licensure: A current, valid, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in any U.S. State or territory.
Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
