Job Description:

Bernalillo Public School District (BPSD) has received a grant award from New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) to hire Educator Fellows to work with our students. The goals of the Educator Fellows Program are to create a new teacher/educator pipeline for schools in New Mexico and improve adult to student ratios in classrooms. The Educator Fellows Program will provide critical hands-on experiences in the education field.

This fellowship is ideal for individuals who enjoy interacting with youth from diverse populations in a school setting, have good communication skills, are flexible, want to make a positive difference in the lives of young people and have a desire to become a certified teacher in for our community of Bernalillo.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* The Educator Fellow is a program participant of the state initiative New Mexico Educator Fellows. As such, the Educator will:

* Enroll in college courses leading toward a degree in education.

* Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

* Communicate and respond to the designated NM Educator Fellows State Coach in a timely manner

* Complete all assigned pre-work and assignments requested by NM Educator Fellows in preparation for their required Communities of Practice (COP).

* Attend all required Communities of Practice-Two in fall and two in spring.

* The Educator Fellow is a participant of our district's Ed Fellows program, and must:

* Participate in all required/appropriate site/district professional development and meetings.

* Register, attend, and successfully pass at least 9 credit hours of college coursework each semester leading to a field in education

* Provide accurate college schedules before the start of the college semester to program coordinator.

* Provide accurate grades at the conclusion of the college semester to program coordinator.

* Complete micro courses and professional development series on various topics to include but not limited to classroom management, math intervention, reading intervention, high intensity tutoring strategies, and cultural and linguistically responsive teaching and learning.

* Participate in regular coaching sessions with Program Coordinator and feedback sessions.

* Demonstrate professional work ethic.

* The Educator Fellow is considered a "teacher-in-training" and will assist a mentor teacher to:

* Provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher.

* Assist a Mentor Teacher with program content and maintain open communication with both the Mentor Teacher and Program Director.

* Consult and assist with the Mentor Teacher on a continuous basis regarding program content and progress of students.

* Plan individualized targeted instruction to students in the areas of reading and math, either in a small group or 1 to 1 setting with the collaboration of the Mentor Teacher.

* Consult with Mentor Teacher in tracking student progress, monitoring, and planning of interventions.

* Maintain current and accurate records as required

* Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the immediate supervisor, program coordinator and/or the superintendent and in alignment with program objectives.
