26-27 Secondary High School Math Teacher

Starting Date: Immediately

Salary: $55,000 (subject to verified education and experience)

Classification: Certified

Location: Assigned School

Reports to: School Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bargaining Unit: Teacher (178 working days, 7.5 hours/day)

Position Summary

The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. Primary responsibilities include student safety, collaboration, and ensuring each student’s readiness to learn, along with necessary guidance, discipline and welfare. The teacher may work in a variety of secondary, individual, or team teaching settings.

Supervision

The teacher works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The teacher’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, and performance standards outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach a full range of competencies in secondary mathematics.
  • Be familiar with Taos Municipal Schools’ curriculum, goals and objectives.
  • Relate specific Career and Technical Education concepts to real‑world contexts.
  • Design activity‑centered units that support essential academic learning.
  • Incorporate Student Leadership standards within curricula.
  • Participate in program advisory activities.
  • Plan for student success based on assessed needs, data, and district‑approved assessment tools.
  • Assist with inclusion of students with special needs, complying with IEPs and 504 plans.
  • Collaborate within a professional learning community to develop and implement best practices.
  • Use research‑based instructional strategies to make learning relevant.
  • Provide meaningful grading and assessment consistent with district policy, and communicate results to students and parents.
  • Integrate required technology into planning, learning, progress reporting, and record‑keeping.
  • Maintain classroom management practices that engage students effectively.
  • Participate in faculty, grade‑level, or department meetings and support school planning and budgeting activities.
  • Identify and act when students are at risk or in danger from bullying, harassment, depression, or academic failure.
  • Assist in supervising students at school activities and events, maintaining vigilance throughout school locations.
  • Develop a professional growth plan and review progress annually with the administrator.
  • Follow board policies, stay updated on changes, and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree.
  • Valid teaching certification issued by NM PED.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the subjects and grade levels taught.
  • Effective communication with parents, students, and staff both verbally and in writing.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • The employee must lift and/or move 25–50 pounds and may assist students with greater weight when required for safety.
  • Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, moving, hearing, and speaking; extensive computer use.
  • May need to break up fights and respond to emergencies.
  • May work outdoors in varying weather, and be exposed to wet/humidity, fumes, chemicals, blood, or other infectious materials.
  • May be required to travel in school vehicles while supervising students.
