Reports to: Principal

Contract Length: 163 Days

Hours: 7:21 a.m. – 3:45 p.m., 4‑day week

Union Status: Union

Licensure: NMPED Licensure

Qualifications
  • Properly certified in all areas of assignment
  • Demonstrate cooperativeness and a willingness to carry out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities
  • Bilingual endorsement is highly preferable
  • Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board

Job Goal: To provide each educable student with a program that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential through an individual education plan (IEP).

Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the IEP for students on caseload, including completing reevaluation packets and identifying present levels of performance
  • Conduct annual IEPs by due date
  • Complete and submit re‑evaluation packets at least 60 days before the evaluation due date
  • Schedule and conduct EDT meetings within the given timeline
  • Work collaboratively with ancillary and diagnostic staff to implement the IEP
  • Provide a basic care program for educable students consistent with state education code requirements and locally adopted guidelines
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Special Education students in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff and assisting them with regular class assignments
  • Confer frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the student’s wellness, strengths, educational, social, and personal behavior problems and progress
  • Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological, learning, or disciplinary problems of each student
  • Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the school’s Special Education Program
  • Assist Special Education students in forming realistic assessments of their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals aligned with those abilities
  • Provide motivation to students who have a short attention span
  • Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior
  • Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent to student activities, in‑school and out‑of‑school
  • Participate in faculty committees and support student activities, both in‑school and out‑of‑school
  • Implement EPSS and participate in curriculum development programs, benchmarks, alignment, performance standards and assessments, and revisions—including the bilingual curriculum—and provide input in developing or modifying IEPs
  • Gather data to develop strategies for student improvement
  • Initiate the selection of equipment and materials and maintain required inventory records
  • Supervise pupils in and out of school activities
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program
  • Administer the Language Assessment Scale testing and scoring in both English and Spanish
  • Participate in filling out time studies for Medicaid reimbursement
  • Attend board meetings at the request of the superintendent or authorized designee
  • Arrange and attend field trips (e.g., zoo, state fair, swimming, bowling)
  • Accompany students to bathrooms, assist with toileting, and lift as needed
  • Rearrange classroom to accommodate student learning activities, develop learning centers or quiet areas
  • Transfer and/or relocate student working files
  • Perform other tasks assigned by supervisors

Salary: $55,200 to $75,003 per year
