Job DescriptionThis position is a High School Classroom Teacher responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction in English Language Arts for high school students, with a focus on state standards and bilingual curriculum as adopted by the Board of Education.
Qualifications- Properly certified in all areas of assignment.
- Demonstrates cooperativeness and willingness to carry out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities.
- Bilingual Endorsement; ESL/TESOL Endorsement as appropriate.
- Be Highly Qualified.
- Other qualifications as determined necessary by the Board.
Reports To: Principal(s) or Designee
Job Goal: Create a high‑school grade program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with students; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a strong foundation for high‑school education in accordance with student ability; establish strong relationships with parents and other staff.
General Responsibilities- Teach utilizing the state standards/benchmarks and curriculum/bilingual curriculum adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop and implement lesson and unit plans that address the standards and benchmarks in the written curriculum for effective instruction.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences that best utilize available instruction time.
- Establish and maintain pupil behavior standards needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
- Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Record student grades and other appropriate information into cumulative files.
- Record student grades on grade sheets and report cards.
- Communicate with parents bi‑weekly, monthly, or sooner if needed, through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress, behavior, and interpretation of the school’s program.
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintain professional development through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
- Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom activities or assignments.
- Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Administer the IPT as needed.
- Gather data to develop strategies for student improvement.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities, including in‑and out‑of‑school activities.
- Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmarks, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of bilingual development programs, and implement EPSS.
- Attend and participate in principal meetings, including parent‑teacher organization meetings.
- Implement the teaching competencies adopted by the Board of Education.
- Be technology literate.
- Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by supervisors.
Term of Employment: Annual term established by the Board of Education through adoption of the school calendar.
Salary: Established by the Board of Education on an annual basis through adoption of salary schedules.
Evaluation: Performance evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
