The NALC Instructor will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate in regards to comprehension proficiency for each student assigned to that classroom in a safe and welcoming learning environment and teach the Dine Language. The objectives for a Navajo Heritage classroom is to focus on oral language comprehension and cultural identity development. The NALC instructor will be responsible for creating an environment that includes project-based and engagement lessons and activities to support the objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved District Curriculum.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
- Use current technology for instruction.
- Hands-on (kinesthetic) instruction.
- Motivate and encourage students to become independent learners.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
- Comprehend the principles of student growth, development and learning, and apply them appropriately.
- Utilize student assessment techniques and procedures.
- Manage the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
- Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
- Modify assignments for special needs students.
- Work with a team teacher as necessary.
- Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change.
- Utilize data-driven instruction.
- Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
- Work with student participation in District programs, (science fair, knowledge bowl, etc.)
- Provide two programs yearly that allows students to demonstrate language, culture, etc.)
- Create lesson plans that are aligned to the New Mexico State Standards and Benchmarks and Power Standards as set forth by the school District.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best use the available time for instruction to actively engage students.
- Incorporate reading and writing strategies across the curriculum.
- Ability to work in a goal-driven environment.
- Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local/state/federal laws.
- Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure.
- Support and comply with grant, program and/or funding source requirements.
- Complete and comply with all required trainings annually.
- Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Leave adequate preparations for a substitute.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees.
- Attend professional development and ICO PLC's.
Minimum Qualifications:
- NM 520 K-12 Native American Language and Culture License
- Knowledge of Din/Spanish language, culture and history preferred
- Must read, write and speak Navajo
- Ability to work well with children, parents and administrators.
- Ability to remain calm and be professional at all times.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Ability to multitask.
Physical/
Job Requirements:
- Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.
Safety and Health:
- Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
- Completed and cleared background check
- Pass drug test if required for position
- Knowledge and compliance with district and school Safety Plans
Equipment/Material Handled:
- Multimedia equipment, including current technology
- Equipment/materials relevant to the job responsibilities
Valid driver license and insurable by district if necessary
