Special Education Teacher
To provide each educable student with a program that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential through individual education plan (IEP).
Properly certified in all areas of assignment;
Demonstrate cooperativeness and a willingness to carry out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities;
Bilingual Endorsed is highly preferable;
Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board.
Candidate must be able to work with all staff. Candidate must be able to follow curriculum and requirements. Basic computer skills (office/web based applications) are required. Candidate must be willing to participate in training and professional development with District Program Director and Site Coordinator. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills with students and be willing to work with families.

Regularly required to walk, talk and listen. Frequently is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Develop and implement the IEP for students on caseload, including completing reevaluation packets, identifying present levels of performance, and other components of the IEP.
Conduct Annual IEPs by due date.
Complete and submit Re-evaluation packets a minimum of 60 days before the evaluation due date.
Schedule and conduct EDT meetings with in the given timeline.
Work collaboratively with ancillary and diagnostic staff to implement the IEP.
Provide a basic care program for educable students consistent with State education code requirements and locally adopted guidelines.
Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Special Education students in regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
Confer frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the student's wellness, strengths, educational, social, and personal behavior problems, and progress of such students.
Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological learning or disciplinary problems of each student.
Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the school's Special Education Program.
Assist the Special Education students in making a realistic assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping these abilities.
Provide motivation to students who have a short attention span.
Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior.
Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
Implement EPSS and participate in curriculum development programs, curriculum benchmarks, alignment, performance standards/assessments and revisions, inclusive of the bilingual curriculum and express your views and professional observation to the E.A. and R. Committee and provide input in developing/modifying IEP(s).
Gather data in order to develop strategies for student improvement.
Initiate the selection of equipment and materials and maintain required inventory records.
Supervise pupil in and out of school activities as assigned.
Administer Group Standardized Tests in accordance with district testing program.
Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
Participate in filling out Time Study for Medicaid reimbursement.
Attend Board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
Arranging and attending field trips (example: trips to the zoo, State Fair, swimming, bowling, etc.)
Accompanying students to bathrooms, assisting with toileting, lifting as needed to assist student
Rearranging classroom to accommodate student learning activities, developing learning centers and/or quiet areas,
Transferring and/or relocating student working files
Some travel involved from school to central office and other locations as needed
Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).
Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
