Position: Teacher | Santo Domingo Keres Language (Travel Stipend)
Location: Peña Blanca

Keres Language (520) Instructor

Reports To: Building Principal

Position Summary

The Keres Language (520) Instructor provides culturally relevant, academically rigorous, and developmentally appropriate instruction to students. The instructor fosters student growth in language acquisition, cultural understanding, and academic achievement while maintaining a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instruction and Curriculum
  • Demonstrate accurate knowledge of the Keres language, content area, and approved curriculum.
  • Deliver instruction using a variety of effective teaching methods and resources.
  • Communicate information clearly to enhance student learning and understanding.
  • Apply principles of student growth, development, and learning.
  • Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Use current technology to support instruction and classroom management.
  • Utilize student assessment techniques and data to improve instructional programs.
  • Prepare lesson plans and maintain written evidence of instructional preparation.
  • Leave adequate plans and materials for substitute teachers when absent.
Classroom Management
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement effective classroom management strategies.
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for student behavior.
  • Encourage student cooperation and engagement.
  • Use conflict resolution techniques appropriately.
  • Arrange the classroom environment to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Demonstrate concern for students’ well-being and self-esteem.
Student Support
  • Recognize and value student diversity.
  • Promote positive student involvement and self-concept.
  • Understand and participate in the development and implementation of:
    • Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
    • 504 Plans
    • Individualized Transition Plans
  • Make necessary instructional accommodations and modifications.
  • Report suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law.
  • Supervise and ensure student safety during field trips and school activities.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Work effectively with administrators, colleagues, parents, and community members.
  • Maintain open and timely communication regarding student progress.
  • Be available to parents, students, and staff outside regular school hours when necessary.
  • Attend and participate in school and district meetings.
  • Develop and utilize community and professional resources.
  • Demonstrate strong public relations skills.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Meet all professional requirements and responsibilities.

Supervision
  • Supervise students assigned to instructional settings.
  • May supervise:
    • Paraprofessionals
    • Practicum students
    • Student teachers
Recordkeeping and Resource Management
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records.
  • Protect and properly use school equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Manage instructional time effectively.
Qualifications
  • Valid New Mexico Teaching License with appropriate endorsements (520 License).
  • Highly Qualified Status.
  • Ability to pass employment verification requirements.
Physical Requirements

The position may require:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, and moving throughout the school day.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Reaching, climbing stairs, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture.
Required Safety and Health Training
  • Child Abuse/Substance Abuse Workshop
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Standard Training
Equipment and Technology
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate multimedia and instructional technology equipment.
  • Proficiency with current educational technology for instruction and management purposes.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Exposure to varying levels of noise, temperature, and air quality.
  • Frequent interruptions and changing priorities are common.
  • Requires flexibility, patience, and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Occasional evening or after-hours responsibilities may be required.
