Secondary Math Teacher

Qualifications

Reports to: Principal

General Supervisor: Superintendent

Job Goal: To create an educational program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils and motivate them to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation in accordance with pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

General Responsibilities
  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, music or any other area of instruction assigned by the Principal to pupils in a classroom utilizing the state standards/benchmarks and district curriculum adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities/programs.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship, expected student behavior and social-emotional learning, and regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop and implement lesson/unit plans that address the standards and benchmarks in the written curriculum for effective instruction.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and incorporate differentiated instruction to support all learners.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Record student grades and other appropriate information into cumulative files if applicable.
  • Record student grades in the student information system.
  • Communicate with parents bi‑weekly, monthly or sooner as needed through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress, behavior, and the school’s program.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members to assess and help pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Create and maintain an effective environment for learning.
  • Maintain professional development through in‑service education activities provided by the district and self‑selected professional growth activities.
  • Address student instructional needs as determined by their IEP/504 or SAT.
  • Gather data through short‑term cycle assessments and use the data to develop and implement strategies for student improvement.
  • Perform other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Principal or Superintendent.

Term of Employment: Term of employment will be established by the Superintendent on an annual basis through the adoption of the school calendar.

Salary: Salary will be established by the Superintendent on an annual basis through the adoption of salary schedules.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation conducted by the Principal or designee.
