Job Description

The elementary principal is responsible for the DASH (Data Accountability Sustainability Higher Achievement). As the instructional leader of the school, the elementary principal directs and coordinates educational, administrative and counseling activities of the elementary school by performing the following duties personally or through delegation to other campus staff.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Directs and manages the instructional program and supervises operations and personnel at campus level.
  • Provides leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service and oversees compliance with District policies, the success of instructional programs and the operation of all campus activities.
  • Responsible for the campus educational programs that ensure compliance with the State Accountability System and the Accountability Data System.
  • Adheres to all State and school board policies.
  • Prepares a master schedule that is in compliance with accreditation standards and other applicable guidelines.
  • Coordinates campus educational programs through meetings with staff, review of teachers’ performances and activities.
  • Provides leadership for instructional growth of teachers by supervising instruction through classroom observation and teacher conferences.
  • Interviews, selects, and orients new staff and recommends assignments for campus personnel.
  • Makes recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, promotion, non‑renewal and dismissal to the Associate Superintendent for Human Resources.
  • Maintains adequate and accurate documentation upon which recommendations or job termination are based.
  • Evaluates teachers, assistant principals, counselors and support staff.
  • Promotes professional growth that meets the needs of professional and support staff personnel.
  • Improves leadership skills through professional development activities.
  • Conferes with teachers, students and parents concerning educational and behavioral issues.
  • Provides documentation and/or assistance in investigating, collecting and gathering information regarding questions, complaints and incidents involving faculty, staff and students.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, community organizations and other schools to coordinate educational services.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with personnel and students to foster a productive school climate.
  • Assists in establishing and clarifying short‑range and long‑range goals that are educationally sound and administratively feasible.
  • Develops and administers educational programs to meet the needs of all students.
  • Acts as the chairperson of the IEP committee or designates an administratively qualified representative who is professionally qualified to facilitate the committee work.
  • Coordinates the requisition and allocation of supplies, equipment and instructional material as needed.
  • Prepares class schedules, cumulative records and attendance reports.
  • Participates in the verification and approval of campus data for the Accountability Data System (ADS).
  • Serves as Site Test Coordinator to prepare and assist in the administration of all district and state‑mandated assessments.
  • Supervises the safety and security of the school building and property, including maintenance of inventories and reports of theft, break‑ins and vandalism.
  • Informs the Superintendent promptly of all cases of extreme danger or disaster.
  • Responsible for proper building maintenance.
  • Plans, monitors and is fiscally responsible for the school budget.
  • Prepares and submits the school budget and monitors allocations and expenditures of funds according to administrative policies.
