Job Goal

To provide a safe, engaging, and academically rigorous classroom environment that supports student achievement and personal growth while meeting the diverse academic, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of elementary learners. The teacher will deliver standards‑based instruction aligned to New Mexico academic standards and district curriculum, foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff, and promote bilingualism, biliteracy, cultural responsiveness, and college and career readiness appropriate to the elementary level.

Performance

Responsibilities Instruction and Learning
  • Plan and deliver standards‑based instruction aligned to New Mexico academic standards and district curriculum for Grade 5 students.
  • Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and other assigned content areas utilizing approved instructional resources and bilingual curriculum when applicable.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that incorporate differentiated instruction, intervention strategies, enrichment opportunities, and culturally and linguistically responsive practices.
  • Use a variety of instructional methodologies and evidence‑based practices to support student learning and engagement.
  • Integrate instructional technology and digital learning tools to enhance teaching and student outcomes.
  • Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional decisions.
  • Analyze student achievement data and implement strategies to improve student growth and proficiency.
Classroom Environment and Student Support
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and structured learning environment that promotes student engagement and responsible behavior.
  • Teach and reinforce expectations related to citizenship, character development, and social‑emotional learning.
  • Implement classroom management procedures aligned with district policies and school expectations.
  • Identify student learning, behavioral, attendance, and social‑emotional needs and collaborate with support staff to provide appropriate interventions.
  • Participate in Student Assistance Teams (SAT), Multi‑Layered Systems of Support (MLSS), IEP meetings, 504 meetings, and other student support processes as required.
Assessment and Communication
  • Evaluate student academic achievement and social growth and maintain accurate student records.
  • Enter and maintain grades, attendance, progress monitoring documentation, and student data in district‑approved systems.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, attendance, academic performance, and behavior.
  • Conduct parent conferences and maintain timely communication when student concerns arise.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional competencies through district professional development, state‑required training, and self‑directed learning.
  • Collaborate with grade‑level teams and participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), curriculum development, and school improvement efforts.
  • Participate in district and site‑based committees, staff meetings, and parent engagement activities.
  • Support implementation of the Educational Plan for Student Success (EPSS) and other district initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
  • Maintain inventory and proper care of instructional materials, equipment, and classroom resources.
  • Supervise students during assigned duties and school‑sponsored activities.
  • Administer district and state assessments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics and conduct consistent with NMPED Code of Ethical Responsibility and district expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
