PurposeTo instruct students in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.
Position Overview- The English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that develops in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of good literature of all types; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that develops standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media;
and that discovers and develops special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet the New Mexico CCSS standards. - ZPSD teachers are responsible for the academic growth of their students and do everything necessary to ensure success. They lead the curriculum, instruction, and assessment for their assigned students, pursuing student growth and achievement through diligent planning, careful execution, and collaboration with colleagues and leadership.
- Ensure high academic standards are set for and met by all students.
- Develop and execute a rigorous standards‑based curriculum.
- Differentiate curriculum, instruction, and individualized learning plans to meet student needs.
- Use student performance data from teacher‑created and standardized assessments to guide instruction.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity.
- Develop positive relationships with students and parents; support families and execute home visits when assigned.
- Enforce classroom rules aligned with school-wide rules and the ZPSD Student Code of Conduct.
- Promote student, parent, and staff participation in school‑initiated activities.
- Collaborate with the Principal to develop and implement a Professional Development Plan.
- Engage in focused reflective work such as action research or learning logs.
- Communicate clearly and accurately with administration, colleagues, students, parents, and the broader academic community to improve outcomes.
- Exhibit personal responsibility for daily work, attendance, appearance, student learning, and school success.
- Demonstrate collegial behavior and contribute to the school community’s professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (required).
- Demonstrated academic progress of students and methods used to achieve results.
- Valid New Mexico teaching license (required).
- Valid 7‑12th ELA endorsement or equivalent (required).
- Authorization to work in the United States (required).
The position requires operating standard business office equipment, collecting and preparing documents, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, walking 60% of the day, and lifting or pushing/pulling 15 to 20 lb for short periods.
Working ConditionsMajority of work performed in a general school environment. The role requires extended hours, non‑traditional hours to fulfill duties, and attendance at organization‑sponsored events and meetings.
Essential EquipmentTools provided include SMART Board, projectors, copiers, phone, fax, computer, calculator, printer, scanner, and related classroom materials.
