The teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district‑approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. The teacher also ensures student safety, provides appropriate guidance, discipline, and welfare, and collaborates to support each student’s readiness to learn. Instruction may occur in a variety of secondary, individual or team teaching settings.

The teacher works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. Performance is governed by professional practice, district policies, the collective bargaining agreement, and school expectations.

• Teach a full range of competencies, including curriculum goals and objectives.
• Apply Career and Technical Education concepts to daily life situations.
• Design activity‑centered units that support academic essential learning.
• Incorporate Student Leadership standards within curricula.
• Participate in program advisory activities.
• Plan for student success based on assessed needs, data, and established learning goals.
• Assist students with special needs by identifying and complying with IEP and 504 accommodation requirements.
• Work collaboratively in a professional learning community with colleagues to develop and implement best teaching practices.
• Conduct lesson planning using professional practice, evidence‑based strategies, and curriculum alignment.
• Maintain accurate grading and evaluation and communicate progress to students and parents.
• Integrate district‑approved technology into planning, learning, reporting, and record‑keeping.
• Establish classroom management practices that foster engagement and enforce discipline procedures.
• Participate in faculty and department meetings, planning, budgeting, and program evaluation.
• Identify and address student risks, including bullying, harassment, depression, or academic failure.
• Supervise students during school activities and events.
• Maintain a professional growth plan and review annually with the administrator.
• Follow board policies and stay current with updates and changes.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's and/or Master’s degree.
• Valid teaching certification issued by the New Mexico Public Education Department (NM PED).
• Demonstrated knowledge for the subjects and levels being taught.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with parents, students, and staff.

• Representative of job duties: lifting and moving 25–50 lbs; potential lifting of heavier students.
• Frequent sitting, lifting, carrying, moving, hearing, and speaking; extensive computer use.
• May be required to break up fights.
• Exposure to outdoor weather, chemicals, fumes, and potentially infectious materials.
• Travel to school‑owned or leased vehicles while supervising students.
