Special Education Coordinator

The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the provision of appropriate educational programs and services to qualifying students within the parameters of federal law, New Mexico law, Public Education Department, and CCSD Board Policy. Essential duties and responsibilities include providing consultation on child-specific issues to CCSD staff as needed, attending high need IEP meetings as requested by school staff/admin, advising CCSD and community sites serving early childhood children with disabilities in the provision of appropriate physical settings and resource materials for special education instructional and related services, assisting and supporting staff with child find, eligibility, IEP and other special education procedures, serving as a district representative for manifestation determination meetings to ensure compliance with federal, state, and CCSD policies and procedures, working collaboratively with assigned schools, programs and services on systemic level change initiatives, assisting and supporting staff with the required interventions/accommodations in the general education setting, assisting and supporting staff with instructional strategies and environmental conditions to promote student achievement, working with staff to promote meaningful communication/participation and fostering active parent involvement, coordinating the Extended School Year Services in conjunction with the Director of Special Education, coordinating alternative placement and settings within the district, understanding and following regulations in regards to IEP requirements, providing support and guidance to the school LEAs on special education forms and reports, assisting in special education curriculum review, training, and implementation, using appropriate data to train staff on IEP writing, decision making, progress monitoring, changes in policy or procedures, etc.

to ensure compliance with federal, state, and CCSD policy and procedures, working directly with building administrators, teachers, and staff to ensure compliance with implementation and data collection of special education services including but not limited to behavior intervention plan, individual health plan, etc., assisting and supporting schools with monitoring compliance, investigating issues, and recommending solutions regarding IEPs, BIPs, service provision, other special education meetings, application of accommodations, compliance with district policies and state and federal law, and other issues that arise, demonstrating effective management of performance responsibilities in a timely, organized manner, demonstrating effective communication and collaboration skills with parents, students, other professionals, and service providers, advising and assisting the district in compliance with federal and state laws, statutes and rules and responding to special education compliance issues, assisting district in identifying and responding to professional development needs related to special education issues, specifically related to the assigned special education services for instructions and related services, assisting district in ensuring the availability of a full continuum of special education services, assisting in assigning instructional and related services staff to site based on allocations, actively monitoring state compliance indicators and performance indicators as assigned, assisting district in the coordination of specialized transportation as needed, assisting district in monitoring caseloads, IEP goals, progress monitoring, and progress reporting, assisting district in addressing special education issues that are otherwise unspecified, assisting the Special Education Director in the management of special education services within the assigned areas to ensure compliance with state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, directives, and organizational practices and procedures, coordinating transition for families and children from Part C to Part B special education services within the guidelines specified by the State and Federal Laws, establishing and maintaining positive collaborative relationships with public and private service agencies designed to assist families of special needs students at all levels, ensuring all IEP's and Evaluations are in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations, assisting in preparing program applications and administering grants from all other agencies pertaining to Special Education processes, programs and materials, including the Extended School Year (ESY), ensuring maintenance and accuracy of confidential records in accordance with Special Education and District procedures, complying with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws, performing any other assigned duties as assigned, and attending after hour meetings as required by…
