Keres Instructional Learner

Job Summary

The Keres Instructional Learner is responsible attending assigned sessions to work with the Keres Instructional Mentor on the planning, development, and implementation of community and school-based programming that promotes the fluency of Tribal Members in the home language, Keres. The position will assist the Mentor to develop, plan, and meet with other Keres Instructors – both those in community schools and those teaching in the community.

The Instructional Learner will learn from and with the Mentor to help them improve their craft and pedagogy. The position will also work with the Mentor and other teachers on lesson planning and alignment to ensure students across different school systems are learning similar levels of work. To work in cooperation with Keres language instructors and utilize fluent speakers to provide effective language instruction.

To ensure that language instruction improves the level of proficiency for all tribal members, especially those in our school programs. Uses appropriate technology to develop and preserve teaching and cultural resources.

• Attends all Keres Instructional and Curriculum Development sessions
• Helps the Mentor to develop, administer, and coordinate Keres Language Curriculum and Lesson Planning sessions with all Keres language teachers – school and community-based.
• Partners with area schools, parents, and students to assess students’ Keres language and culture needs.

• Works extensively with the community to generate interest and commitment to the language program.

• Promotes Keres Language and Culture Program activities, language instructor certification, and events through the use of social media, flyers, signage, email, and outreach.
• Assists the Mentor is developing community and school-based activities and events that will promote the use of the Keres language.
• Provides lesson plans to the Education when requested
• Teaches Keres Language Classes and works directly with Keres Language Instructional Mentor to monitor attendance, scheduling, promotion, and implementation of activities.
• Reviews, analyzes and reports on Keres language curricula and materials.
• Maintains detailed records of best practices as they apply to language revitalization and instruction.
• Attends professional development opportunities related to language revitalization and instruction.

• Identifies and attends staff training opportunities.
• Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

• Education:
  
  HS Diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in a related field is preferred.
• Keres Teaching Certification Required
• Experience/Basic Knowledge:
  Must be a fluent Keres and English language speaker and have a high degree of understanding of the cultural practices and norms of the Pueblo of San Felipe. 1-year of experience in a professional office environment is preferred. Must have good writing skills and the ability to solve basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and measurements.

  Must have the ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to lift, bend, and stoop.
