Sr. Environmental Specialist

Senior Construction Environmental Specialist opportunity supporting large-scale renewable energy construction projects across the Southwest. This is a high-impact, field-based role for someone with strong experience in environmental compliance, SWPPP, hazardous waste, remediation, and regulatory interaction who enjoys being hands‑on in the field and traveling to major project sites. Responsibilities
  • Partner with the project management team in developing and executing site specific environmental plans and activities
  • Lead the project planning and environmental risk analysis
  • Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors
  • Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for environmental concerns. Support with implementation of policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations
  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs
  • Support in the development of company-wide environmental management support programs
  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures
  • Lead and conduct work site environmental inspections
  • Record, monitor, and analyze environmental statistics
  • Document and track all environmental violations, non‑compliance conditions, etc. Conduct project’s leading and trailing indicator data / document collection and trend analyses
  • Conduct or assist with incident analysis and response
  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial, and Local) reporting and documentation requirements

Provide resource of environmental related information

  • Identify, evaluate and provide solutions for environmental risks
  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, US EPA, ASTM, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
  • Serve as resource for environmental issues or concerns for all project team members. Support and/or chair environmental meetings

Collaborate with various third parties including the customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, insurance representatives, etc.

Accompany environmental, health and safety, insurance and regulatory personnel on work site tours

Ensure maintenance and inspection of environmental equipment

Support the Project Manager with the management of the environmental budget allocated for project

Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

Salary

$90,000 - $130,000

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years relevant experience
  • Experience managing a hazardous waste and contamination compliance
  • Experience with storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPP)
  • Experience with endangered species, erosion prevention and sediment control
  • Experience with natural gas or oil is preferred
  • Deep understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, polices, and procedures
  • Strong organization and self‑direction skills with the ability to collaborate in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to communicate with consultants and governmental agencies
  • Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)
  • Proficient with reviewing designs
  • Current driver’s license
  • 100% travel required
