Job Description
The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, support, and optimization of industrial automation systems. This role provides technical leadership across local and global projects, ensuring system reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and continuous improvement in machine control and connectivity.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) requirements, concepts, schematics, test plans, and processes for new automation and test systems.
- Execute technical project roadmaps by identifying critical electronic and control components and creating robust, scalable design architectures for global use.
- Design, develop, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
- Lead automation projects from concept and design through commissioning, validation, and production support.
- Select and implement appropriate sensors and transducers to measure parameters such as force, torque, current, and velocity.
- Monitor test equipment performance using KPIs and drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Troubleshoot complex control system issues to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
- Develop and maintain standard automation architectures, coding standards, and technical documentation.
- Drive project schedules and accountability to achieve key performance metrics.
- Mentor and coach engineering teams on best practices, including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis, automation design, and software programming.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to testing and automation equipment.
- 5+ years of experience in the design, build, and programming of automated manufacturing assembly and/or test systems.
- Experience in manufacturing test development, automation, data acquisition, and fixture development.
- Advanced experience with PLC programming and structured programming languages.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using engineering tools such as DOE, FEA, PFMEA, DFMEA, statistical data analysis, and risk analysis.
- Electrical/controls engineering design experience, including creation of schematics using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works, or NX.
- Knowledge of mechatronic systems incorporating pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols such as Ether Net/IP, Ether
CAT, OPC UA, IO-Link, TCP/IP, RS‑232, RS‑485, and CAN. - Strong organizational, problem‑solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience with SQL / DBx database development.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
