LocationChino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

Assist in geomechanical project oversight and review, relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning.
Assist in slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews.
Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geomechanical information to mine and site personnel.
Assist in conducting and communicating the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads.
Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geomechanical data acquisition and analyses. Perform other duties as required.
What You Bring To FreeportB.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering with no experience required.
Knowledge in the principles and practices of Mining, Mining Engineering and Geotechnical applications in a hard rock open pit mine environment.
Knowledge of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis.
Skilled at researching, analyzing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action plans.
Skilled in managing Engineering projects related to a hard rock open pit setting.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience.
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety.
Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability.
What We Offer YouThe estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $75,000-$104,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
