Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) is looking for an Associate or Experienced Mechanical Systems Design & Analysis Engineer (Level 2 or
3) to join our team at the Starfire Optical Range on Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The role supports the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground-based telescopes.
This position will include work in mechanical design for optical systems, thermal analyses, structural analyses, and integration of subsystems. The ideal candidate will have experience with Solid Works, ANSYS, NX, or other CAD software and Finite Element Analysis. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements in adaptive optics, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, laser systems to achieve research objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Supports the development and documentation of mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment.
- Supports the development, maintenance or modification of system designs/proposals to provide design documentation and high-level requirements to downstream users/customers.
- Performs detail design development and modification of mechanical and fluid system installations.
- Performs spatial integration at system or component level and modification of mechanisms/landing gear/ordinance systems.
- Assists in preparing technical documents for mechanical components and systems.
- Assists in supporting proposal preparation and new business development efforts.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
- 2+ years of experience in using computer-aided design (CAD) tools to design Mechanical components
- 2+ years of experience with structural design or the design of mechanical sub-systems or components
- Experience assembling, repairing, and testing mechanical and electrical components and systems
- Experience working with finite element models / simulations using one or more of the following: ANSYS, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, Hypermesh, LS-Dyna, Optistruct
- Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
