The Finance Director is a full-time, on-site position located in Mesquite, NM, responsible for leading the City’s financial planning, budgeting, and reporting functions. This role oversees accounting operations, cash management, payroll, and purchasing to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. The Finance Director prepares and presents financial reports to city leadership, supports policy development with financial analysis, and manages annual audits and regulatory filings.
Daily responsibilities include supervising finance staff, maintaining financial systems, monitoring revenues and expenditures, and advising departments on fiscal matters. The role collaborates closely with executive leadership to support long-term financial sustainability, capital planning, and strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated expertise in municipal or governmental finance, including budgeting, financial planning, and fiscal policy.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), auditing processes, and internal control practices.
- Proficiency with financial management systems, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools.
- Experience leading and developing teams, managing projects, and coordinating cross-departmental initiatives.
- Ability to prepare clear financial reports, communicate complex information to non-financial audiences, and present to senior leadership and public bodies.
- Familiarity with public sector regulations, tax structures, and compliance requirements applicable to local government.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CGFO) preferred.
- Relevant experience in a director-level or senior financial management role, ideally within a city, county, or public agency.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
