POSITION SUMMARY
Perform administrative and clinical duties under the direction of a physician orother provider/clinical personnel. Administrative duties may includescheduling appointments, maintaining electronic medical records, billing, andcoding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include takingand recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping rooms neat and clean; discarding waste,needles and other biohazard waste according to established protocols,Greet and log in patients arrivingat office or clinic.Interview patients to obtainmedical information; measure, take and record and enter vital signs,weight, and height, medical history, lab or test results in electronic medical records. Assess physicalconditions of patients to aid in diagnosis or treatmentShow patients to examination roomsand prepare them for the physician.Assist physicians in the examinationand treatment of patients, handing them instruments or materials orperforming such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.Perform routine laboratory tests andsample analyses. Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens,log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.May operate equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests.Change dressings on wounds; applybandages, dressings, or splints.Prepare and administer immunizationsor medications as directed by a physician. Explain treatment procedures,medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.Obtain authorization for drugrefills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.Assist with referral process; contactmedical facilities or departments to schedule patients for additional tests,x-rays/MRIs or other diagnostic services and/or admission.Clean and sterilize instrumentsand dispose of contaminated supplies.Perform general office duties,such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insuranceforms. Schedule appointments for patients.Conduct inventory and order medical, lab, office supplies or equipment.Maintain and follow established infection control procedures.Obtain prior-authorizations from insurers for referrals.Participate in the development of nursing protocols, accreditation, quality and other programs identified to improve patient care.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of experience in patient care or homecare.High School Diploma or GED.Certificate of Completion in Medical Assistant Program preferred.Current certification as Medical Assistant.Current CPR certification.KNOWLEDGE,

Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform a range of nursing care as amedical/nursing assistant and sufficient experience to serve as a responsible member of the clinical team.Knowledge and skill sufficient to perform procedures, use equipment and supplies for the purpose of providing patient care to assigned patients.Knowledge of terminology and skills sufficient to report the patient's physical and emotional reactions for the purpose of effective communication with nursing and medical personnel and for recording and reporting pertinent information for inclusion in patient care plans.Knowledge of the unique needs, clinical skills and client care standards appropriate to the age ranges served: child and adolescents.Knowledge of human body structure, function, illnesses and diseases and skills sufficient to communicate with patients, nursing/medical staff and family members.Knowledge of the electronic data entry systems and computer operations.Knowledge of and understanding of HIPAA and the Privacy Act.Abilityto function independently at times and the ability to be self- directed.Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
Windows Explorer (electronic file-handling), Microsoft Word;
Microsoft Excel; internet software; and electronic database health records systems.Basicoperation of a workstation (turning on/off, knowledge of basic functions and components). Use/storage/maintenance of multiple usernames and passwords.Computer-related problem-solving skills through the use of available trainings and help desk.Ability to give fullattention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at appropriate times.#J-18808-Ljbffr
