GENERAL PURPOSE

Under basic supervision, functions as a member of Sandoval County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) firefighting team by performing skilled work in fire suppression, emergency medical services, life support, and rescue operations; maintains technical certifications as Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician
- Intermediate (EMT-I); maintains required licensure; provides patient care within the scope of Sandoval County protocols and operates within scope of EMT-I licensure; and performs other related duties as assigned/ required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education and Experience:

    High School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Medical Services, or related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the firefighting or EMS field(s) is preferred.
  • Eligible candidates with current full-time employment and two years of experience as a structural firefighter in an all-hazards agency responsible for residential and commercial fire responses as well as EMS, AND candid ates who have completed a new hire academy and hold current certification as an IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter II may be considered LATERAL, and given preference, and may have reduced New Hire Academy training requirements and duration.

Licenses or Certifications
  • Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) License from New Mexico Emergency Medical Systems (NMEMS).
  • National registry will be accepted at time of application but candidate must obtain reciprocity through the New Mexico EMS Bureau prior to the completion of the fire department’s New Hire Academy Valid New Mexico driver’s license.
  • Additional Licenses or Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire:
    Must obtain New Mexico Class E license prior to the completion of the fire department’s New Hire Academy.
  • Additional Licenses or Certifications required within six (6) months of hire:
    Certification as a Firefighter II from New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy, or other International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) accredited training.
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Certificate or equivalent Wild Land Firefighting Certification (S130/190) Operations Level Hazmat Certification Vehicle Extrication Certification.
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of the following:
    Sandoval County Fire Department EMT-Intermediate test with a score of 80% or higher;
  • OSHA 202 Physical and DOT screening Sandoval County Firefighter physical capacity/agility test;
  • a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening;
    Background check as required.
  • Successful completion of an annual physical capacity/agility test and OSHA 202 physical.
  • This is a safety- sensitive position subject to random drug testing in accordance with County policy Article XIII Drug and Alcohol Policy and Testing-Drug Free Workplace of the Sandoval County Personnel Rules and Regulation.
  • This position is subject to random alcohol and drug testing in accordance with 49

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Position reports to the Fire Chief or their designee, and does not exercise supervision over lower level staff.
